NASCAR Race Review: Good Sam RV Emergency Road Service 125

by

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. Saturday the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series was scheduled to run the Good Sam RV Emergency Road Service 125 at Pocono Raceway. And they did qualify for the race with 2 Kevin Harvick in his own Truck with Sponsor Ollie’s capturing the Pole with a speed of 162.864 mph and 55.322 seconds around this massive 2.5 mile “tricky triangle”. 18 Kyle Busch started second. This is only the second time the Trucks have been to Pocono Raceway. 66 Payton Sellers had a fire in his engine and had to start from the rear. 13 Johnny Sauter crashed in qualifying and will start from the rear.

2 Harvick leads the race from the Pole. The first caution comes out when the 60 Truck of Cole Whitt looses a tire and the carcass ends up on the track. He makes a pit stop and stays on the lead lap. They restart on lap 6. The second caution comes out at the restart. Mark Martin, in the 32, has transmission problems and doesn’t get going, causing a chain reaction. 23 Jason White gets into 62 Brendan Gaughan when 6 Justin Lofton gets into 23. 23 spins and spins and spins before they bring out the caution. 75 James Hylton (76 years old!) gets back on the lead lap. The Green Flag comes back out on lap 9. 23 has a tire rub. 5 Todd Bodine gets by 88 Matt Crafton. 32 races 88 but 88 keeps the spot. They do it again and this time 32 takes the spot.

The third caution is for rain. 18 is smoking the tire and makes a pit stop. They can’t get the jack under the Truck and looses spots. 29 Parker Kligerman stays out to lead the race when the Red Flag comes out to stop the race. Twenty hours later, they are back on the track to finish the race Sunday morning.

The top six drivers stay out on the track while others take the time to make a pit stop before they resume the race. 13 changes the camber shim. 23 has damage to his truck and a piece falls off, putting off the restart. They go Green on lap 22 with 29 leading and 22 Joey Coulter on the front row. 2 drives inside 22 for second and then inside 29 to take the lead. 31 James Buescher and 22 battle for third and 22 lets 31 by. 31 and 22 get by 29.

The  tire falls off the 8 Truck of Nelson Piquet, Jr., bringing out the fourth caution. Those that didn’t pit before now make their pit stops. 6 Justin Lofton gets his lap back. 2 takes off. The fifth caution comes out with 14 laps to go for spinning 66 Payton Sellers.  81 David Starr turned 62, they both slide and collect 66 who spins. 2 chooses the outside next to team mate 33 Ron Hornaday, Jr. 88 makes it three wide. 18 gets by 33 for third.

The sixth caution comes out for 66 stalled on the access road. (Sellers has had a bad weekend. His hauler crashed into the Flag Stand when they got to the track. Friday he blew the engine and now he is stalled.) 23 Jason White gets back onto the lead lap. They restart with five laps to go. 4 Ricky Carmichael changes lanes before the Line and gets Black Flagged. 32 and 33 race each other, 33 gets loose and 32 moves up the track so 33 can recover. The seventh caution comes out when 5  Todd Bodine slides sideways. He tried to get between 3 Austin Dillon and 33 and there wasn’t room.

This leaves the race with a Green, White Checker Finish. 2 and 18 are on the front row, 2 on the outside for the restart. Harvick may or may not have enough fuel to make it to the end. 88 drives inside 33 for eighth. 2 takes off and pulls ahead with 18 and 31 James Buescher battling for second. After dominating the race, 2 Kevin Harvick wins the Good Sam RV Emergency Road Service 125 (50 laps). 18 Kyle Busch finished second, followed by 31 James Buescher, 13 Johnny Sauter, 3 Austin Dillon, 22 Joey Coulter, 32 Mark Martin, 88 Matt Crafton, 33 Ron Hornaday, Jr. and 17 Timothy Peters for the top ten. Johnny Sauter retains the Points lead ahead of Austin Dillon, James Buescher, Timothy Peters, Cole Whitt and Matt Crafton. Joey Coulter and Parker Kligerman trade seventh and eighth places with Ron Hornaday and Todd Bodine making the top  ten.

Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR racing. Next up: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing at Pocono Raceway. Hopefully, Mother Nature cooperates and we get to see the Good Sam RV Insurance 500. I will be back when the race is over.
