NASCAR Championship Weekend

by

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. This is NASCAR Championship Weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Each of the three top NASCAR Series’ will be racing this last race to determine the Champion. However, Mother Nature is again having her say in the matter. It is raining in Miami, Fl. and the NASCAR Nationwide drivers are having to wait to get in their second practice.

The  Nationwide drivers did get in one practice session for the Ford 300 race. Forty-nine cars are entered for this race, leaving six who will have to go home. 22 Brad Keselowski was fastest in the first practice. He will qualify last on Saturday before the race. 60 Carl Edwards, championship contender, 2 Elliott Sadler, 16 Trevor Bayne and 7 Danica Patrick made up the fastest five cars. Denny Hamlin will drive the #18 car, while 33 will be Clint Bowyer. Truck driver Nelson Piquet, Jr. will drive the #30 car.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series was able to complete a practice session before the rain. Championship contender 31 James Buescher was fastest in that practice and will qualify last, later on Friday before the race. That is, if the rain stays away. 21 Ty Dillon was second fastest. 8 Nelson Piquet, Jr. was third fastest. Championship contenders 3 Austin Dillon and 13 Johnny Sauter made up the top five fastest. 43 Trucks are entered in this 36 Truck field. Seven of them will not be racing in the Ford 200.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will be racing the Ford 400 on Sunday. Only Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart are left racing for the championship. They are only three points apart. We’ll have to see if they get any practice time today. Say nice things about Mother Nature and hope she cooperates for the remainder of the weekend.

Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR racing.
