Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is racing the Sylvania 300 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend. Coors Light Pole Qualifying took place on Friday and got a little exciting with Mother Nature stepping in before qualifying was complete. 39 Ryan Newman and 4 Kasey Kahne were fastest in practice earlier and were set to go out last to qualify. However, with five of the fastest cars still to qualify, it started raining!
In the end, they dried the track and sent 42 Juan Pablo Montoya out. He qualified 27th and was not very pleased with NASCAR for his poor stating position. 48 Jimmie Johnson was next. He came out and shut the car down, as he felt it was still raining. When he did go out, he qualified seventh. 24 Jeff Gordon qualified fifth. 4 Kasey Kahne took the pole position from 83 Brian Vickers, who had been waiting for the session to resume so he would have a better starting position. But Rocket Man, 39 Ryan Newman was the fastest in practice and the last driver to qualify.
The last time they were at this track, Ryan started from the pole and won the race! Newman captured the Pole with a speed of 135.002 mph (the only driver at 135) and 28.213 seconds around this 1.054 mile track. Kahne will be on the front row for the race on Sunday. Let’s hope Mother Nature doesn’t pull another one and lets them race on Sunday. T. J. Bell and Steve Park failed to qualify for the race.
