NASCAR Racing At Bristol Starts On Wednesday

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. This week NASCAR is at the Bristol Motor Speedway for a whole lot of racing starting on Wednesday. The Whelan Modifieds raced the UNOH 150 , with Ryan Newman leading most of the laps, pitting, and then coming back to race back to the lead and win the race. However, there were nine cautions and a Red Flag at this short track bull ring.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series ran the O’Reilly Auto Parts 200 race Wednesday night. 24 Elliott Sadler sat on the Pole with a speed of 122.607 mph and 15.650 seconds around this .533 mile track, the Fastest half mile in the world. 8 Nelson Piquet, Jr. started next to him on the front row. Kevin Harvick is in his #2 Truck. He hasn’t raced at Bristol in his Truck since 2004. Kyle Busch didn’t start racing in Trucks until 2005, so this is the first race at Bristol that they will be competing against each other. They start the race in sixth and seventh.

I won’t go into a blow by blow account of what happened here now. There is more room on the track for side by side racing now that the track was redone. But there were plenty of cautions for those of you liking crashing as part of racing. Although some of the cautions were for trucks running out of fuel and getting stuck on the track. Sadler led a lot of laps, driving for another team in a KHI prepared truck. 18 Busch, as usual, decided he was better than everyone else and cut in front of 24 at one point. Only 24 was already there and didn’t back off so that 18 crashed himself into the wall. He then stayed on the track and waited for 24 to get back around so that he could spin 24 out as pay back for not letting him in. When asked if Sadler deliberately got him into the wall, Kyle replied that Harvick writes his paycheck and what else could he think? However, in this case Sadler was not working for Harvick. And Sadler did nothing wrong.

Busch pulled the truck off and sat in it for awhile before getting out to face the media. The announcers all commented that Busch wasn’t clear before he jumped up in front of Sadler. And, truth be told, if it had been the other way around, with Sadler not being clear, Busch would not have backed down to let him in.

23 Jason White ran out of fuel, as did 3 Austin Dillon. 33 Ron Hornaday spun out when he got sideways. 87 Chris Jones and 01 Jake Crum took turns spinning each other out. 62 Brendan Gaughan ran out of fuel.  In the closing laps 2 Harvick was leading, with 13 Johnny Sauter rallying for the lead. 2 Kevin Harvick wins the O’Reilly Auto Parts 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee. This was his third Camping World Truck win in a row! Johnny Sauter finished second, followed by Todd Bodine, James Buescher, Timothy Peters, Joey Coulter, Justin Lofton and Nelson Piquet, Jr. Elliott Sadler got back on track after being spun by Busch to finish ninth and Parker Kligerman finished tenth. Busch, who swept all three Series here last year, will not be doing that again, finishing thirtieth.

In the points Johnny Sauter stays in the lead with his runner up finish. James Buescher remains in second. Timothy Peters and Austin Dillon trade third and fourth, Cole Whitt stays in fifth. Joey Coulter moves up two spots, Matt Crafton falls a spot, Kligerman moves up a spot and Hornaday falls two spots. Bodine remains in tenth.

Friday night the NASCAR Nationwide Series will be racing the Food City 250. And on Saturday night under the lights, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will be racing the Irwin Tools Night Race, a 500 lap race. Lots of action at Bristol Motor Speedway for the weekend. Fans will like racing starting on Wednesday. Or at least this fan sure does.

Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR racing. NASCAR Tickets are still available.
