Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. This week NASCAR is at the Michigan International Speedway in the Irish Hills of Brooklyn, MI. This 2 mile track is home to the Detroit manufacturers. It’s one of my favorite tracks because there is so much room to race. There are few caution laps because there is enough room to race without getting into one another. Dale Jarrett holds the race record here of over 173 mph in a race that had no caution flags. My kind of racing.
Friday held practice for both the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Saturday both Series’ held Coors Light Pole Qualifying. Nationwide held their qualifying first. The slowest cars come out first and the fastest in the first practice come out last. No longer is there two sessions, one for the cars locked in and one for the cars not locked in. Fast is fast and slow is slow, after all.
33 Paul Menard sits on the pole for the Alliance Truck Parts 250, with 12 Sam Hornish, Jr. next to him on the front row. kyle Busch and Mark Martin are both in the race on Saturday, going for the most wins record. Both are Sprint Cup drivers. I’m going for my Nationwide favorites. They will race Saturday afternoon.
22 Kurt Busch sits on the pole for the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 with a speed of 188.699 mph and 38.156 seconds, his third consecutive pole! And fourth in a row for Penske. 00 David Reutimann will start second in Sunday’s race.
In other news, all three Joe Gibbs Racing cars of 11 Denny Hamlin, 18 Kyle Busch and 20 Joey Logano had their oil pans confiscated for not being pre-approved. There will be no penalty, as they will not be racing with these oil pans. The 20 car had to change the engine and will have to start the race from the rear.
Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch are no longer on probation, so there may be some interesting racing. Hopefully they will not bring in other cars to their feud. More later.
Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR.
