NASCAR Racing This Week

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. This week the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series travels to Kansas Speedway for the STP 400.  This is a 1.5 mile tri-oval track and is flatter than the other 1.5 mile tracks on the circuit. There are now two races at Kansas Speedway. Last year the lone race was in the chase in September. NASCAR added this race because it now has a casino on the premises. Matt Kenseth holds the qualifying record of 180.856 mph and 29.858 seconds set 10/8/05. Mark Martin holds the track record of 137.774 mph set 10/9/05.

Last year Greg Biffle won this race, but the big news was Kyle Busch vs. David Reutimann. Kyle turned David and spun him out. David had had enough of Kyle’s antics and came back to spin Kyle out. This was during the chase and Kyle felt David should have waited until next year to retaliate! (My thoughts: Way to go Reuty! Kyle thinks he’s the only one that should be allowed to do something like that.) Entering the race, Carl Edwards leads the points over Kevin Harvick (who jumped three spots with his win in the Coca Cola 600), Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Kyle and Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth, Clint Bowyer, Tony Stewart and Ryan Newman for the top ten in points.

While Sprint Cup is in Kansas, the NASCAR Nationwide Series is at Chicagoland Speedway for their STP 300 race. Danica Patrick is entered in this race. And Trevor Bayne is back in action. Last week Matt Kenseth won the NNS race in his car. Let’s see if he can win in his own car. Elliott Sadler leads the Nationwide points over  Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. (who won at Iowa Speedway), Reed Sorenson, Justin Allgaier, Aric Armirola, Jason Leffler, Kenny Wallace, Brian Scott and Josh Wise for the top ten.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series this week is at Kansas Speedway for their O’Reilly Auto Parts 250, their eighth race this year. Cole Whitt leads Johnny Sauter by one point in their standings. Followed by Matt Crafton, Austin Dillon, Ron Hornaday, Timothy Peters, James Buescher, Clay Rogers, Parker Kligerman and Max Papis. You can get all your NASCAR tickets at Vivid Seats. Talk to you later.

Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR racing.
