NASCAR Race Review: Top Gear 300

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. The NASCAR Nationwide Series ran their Top Gear 300 race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon. 6 Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., winner of the last Nationwide race at Iowa Speedway sat on the pole with a speed of 186.994 mph and 28.878 seconds. 33 Kevin Harvick starts second. 16 this week is Matt Kenseth, filling in for Trevor Bayne. This is his first Nationwide start this year. 300 miles on this 1.5 mile track is 200 laps.

6 leads from the pole. 18 kyle Busch and 20 Joey Logano battle for position and 18 takes it. 16 takes the lead and 60 Carl Edwards takes it from 16. There was a competition caution after lap 25 because of rain overnight and no practice on Friday. 33 leads out of the pits and chooses the inside. 38 Jason Leffler had a tire violation in the pits. 6 gets by 16 for second.

The second caution is for debris on the track after 23 Robert Richardson, Jr. hit the wall. 18 takes the lead. The third caution is for 41 Jeffrey Earnhardt with an expired engine and much fluid on the track. 33 and 18 battle for the lead at the restart and stay side by side until 18 takes the lead off turn 4. 12 Sam Hornish, Jr. gets sideways but gathers it together and goes on racing. The fourth caution comes out for 81 Blake Koch who blows the engine.

18 is inside and 60 outside for the restart. 33 gets by 60 for second. 16 gets by 60 for third. 16 drives around 33 for second. 88 Aric Almirola has a vibration and pits. 16 and 18 battle for the lead with 60 behind 16. 16 finally takes the lead. 60 gets by 18 for second in traffic. 87 Kimi Raikkonen brushes the wall. There is a round of Green Flag Pitting. 60 leads, 12 leads and 31 Justin Allgaier leads. 87 runs over something and has to pit again. After it all, 16 is back in the lead.

The fifth caution comes out during the commercial for debris. 18 and 60 battle for the lead. 60 finally clears 18 to lead. 16 gets by 18 for second. 33 makes it three wide and gets into someone, getting a tire rub. He has to pit. 38 runs out of fuel on the last lap. And 16 Matt Kenseth wins the Top Gear 300 in his first Nationwide start this year. This was the first time in the new car for Matt. Elliott Sadler keeps the point lead by one point over Stenhouse, Jr. and points over Reed Sorenson.

Next up: The Coca Cola 600 on Sunday afternoon into the night.
