Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. This weekend the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is at home for most of the teams, at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC. just outside of Charlotte for the longest race of the season, The Coca Cola 600. Matt Kenseth, 2003 Winston Cup Champion, won his first race in this race while a Rookie in 2000. David Reutimann also won his first race here in a rain shortened Coca Cola 600. Jamie McMurray won his first race here substituting for injured Sterling Marlin at this track in the Fall race here.
Last week here, was the Sprint All-Star Race. While the race was not the crash-fest the media wanted, it was hard racing for the Million Dollars. Carl Edwards dominated and won the race. He then crashed his car afterwards in the infield. He will not win the Coca Cola 600 in that car! Last year Kurt Busch won the Sprint All-Star Race and went on to win the Coca Cola 600. Carl may win, but not in that car.
Last week in Charlotte, five more All-Stars were inducted into the NASCAR Hall Of Fame. Lee Petty, (Gentleman) Ned Jarrett, (owner) Bud Moore, Bobby Allyson and David Pearson.
The NASCAR Nationwide Series is also at Charlotte Motor Speedway for their thirteenth race, the Top Gear 300. Last week Nationwide driver, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. won the John Deere Dealers 250 at Iowa Speedway. (Hooray, a Nationwide driver wins!) This was his first win. A Nationwide driver has not won a Nationwide race since March 2010. Only two Sprint Cup drivers were racing in that race. They finished second and third. Too bad they can’t “let” the Nationwide drivers win more often.
You can get your NASCAR tickets at Vivid Seats. Tell them I sent you. I’ll be back for more NASCAR News later for practice and more when things get underway.
Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR racing.
