NASCAR Race Review: John Deere Dealers 250

by

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. The NASCAR Nationwide Series is in Newton, Iowa at the Iowa Speedway for the John Deere Dealers 250 race. This is a beautiful 7/8 mile d-shaped oval that Cup star, Rusty Wallace helped design. With the Sprint Cup drivers mostly staying home in NC after the Sprint All-Star Race, this race is an race for the Nationwide drivers. Only Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski are in this race. Hopefully a Nationwide driver will win this race.

20 Drew Herring starts from the pole, with 18 Michael McDowell beside him on the front row. Qualifying was rained out so they line up according to the Rule Book. This is the 500th start for 09 Kenny Wallace! 33 is Truck driver Austin Dillon. 31 Justin Allgaier is starting from the rear in a back-up car after crashing his primary car in practice. 2 Elliott Sadler, former Sprint Cup veteran is a Rookie at this track!

20 leads from the pole. When 20 starts lapping cars, 18 takes the lead in traffic. 32 Reed Sorenson gets by 20 for second. There is a competition caution after lap 40 because of the rain, so they can check the wear of the tires. 2 is caught speeding into the pits and will restart the race from the rear. 18 comes out of the pits first and chooses the outside. 32 takes the lead.

The second caution comes out when 99 Ryan Truex gets into the wall. 88 Aric Almirola moves into second place from the top of the track. The third caution comes out for spinning 44 Angela Cope. 32 chooses the inside and 32 and 88 battle for the lead. The fourth caution is for spinning 93 Amber Cope (twins). 32 restarts on the inside with 22 Keselowski on the inside. They battle for the lead, 60 Edwards gets 32 loose and 60 and 22 get by. 60 takes the lead. 22 takes the lead. 6 Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. catches leader 22. 6 takes the lead.

62 Michael Annett makes a pit stop, starting Green Flag Pitting. 31 leads. The fifth caution comes out during the commercial before all drivers have made their pit stop. 11 Brian Scott spins to avoid 93. NASCAR calls her to the pits to sit out the rest of the race. 60 is in the lead. Ten cars get waved around to be at the tail end of the lead lap. 6 takes the lead. 11 gets Black Flagged to come in for repairs. 22 and 60 battle for second.

And 6 Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. wins the John Deere Dealers 250 Nationwide race at Iowa Speedway. No Nationwide driver has won a Nationwide race since 3/10 when Allgaier did it in Bristol. Ricky is the 2010 Rookie Of The Year. He gets the Checker Flag after he gets out to face the fans and drives around for the fans the wrong way so he can see them. Elliott Sadler takes over the championship points.

Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR racing.
