NASCAR Race Review: Kroger 250

by

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. Saturday the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series raced the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway. And it was  a great Truck driver win! Woo Hoo!!! (18 Kyle Busch and 2 Kevin Harvick were the only Cup drivers in the race today. Normally one of these two drivers win these Truck races.)

13 Johnny Sauter started from the pole with a speed of 95.463 mph and 19.836 seconds, with 60 Cole Whitt beside him on the front row. 13 chooses the bottom and leads the first lap. The first caution comes out during the commercial. 77 Justin Lofton smashes into the wall after contact with 57 Norm Benning. 92 Clay Rogers gets by. At the restart 18 on the inside takes second from 2. 33 Ron Hornaday and 3 Austin Dillon get by 2.

The second caution comes out during the commercial when 97 Matt Lofton spins  after bouncing off the curb. 60 got by 18 for second. 18 jumps inside 13 to take the lead. 13 takes the lead back. 33 and 3 get by 18. The third caution comes out when 32 Brad Sweet gets turned  and catches the car but those behind him were not so lucky. 8 Nelson Piquet, Jr. and 17 Timothy Peters get the most damage when 9 Max Papis checks up and 17 gets into 9 and 8 gets into 17.

22 Joey Coulter gets by 18 for second. 7 Miguel Paludo gets by 18 for third. 4 Ricky Carmichael gets by 33. The fourth caution comes out when 30 Todd Bodine and 2 are racing. 30 bumps 2 to get by and 2 comes back to spin 30. 9 bumps 2 and 2 pits to adjust the camber. 2 looses 2 laps for the adjustment. 7 Paludo leads at the restart. 4 Carmichael takes the lead. 88 Matt Crafton gets by 7 for second. 9 gets by 7 and 23 Jason White bumps 7 to get by.

The fifth caution is for spinning 10 Chase Mattioli. 07 Caleb Roark gets back onto the lead lap. At the restart 33, 4 and 88 race for the lead. 88 takes the lead, then 33 takes the lead. The sixth caution is for 10 spinning again. 2 gets one of those laps back. 88 falls back after being stuck on the outside. 4 takes the lead.

The seventh caution comes out during the commercial. 88 bumped 32 to get him spinning. Behind them 51 Justin Johnson and 31 James Buscher can’t slow down and hit each other, both into the wall. There is a Red Flag for clean-up. 07 Roark again gets back on the lead lap. 18 takes the lead. The eighth caution comes out during the commercial. 13 got by 4 and 60 tried to do the same, but spins 4. 2 Harvick gets back onto the lead lap. The ninth caution is for spinning 10 again. 62 Brendan Gaughan leads. 62, 3 and 9 battle for the lead with 3 taking the lead. 88 and 2 get by 30.

The tenth caution comes out when 30 spins 15 Dusty Davis. The eleventh caution comes out when 30 goes high on the track and slides in the marbles. 18 takes the lead. 13 gets by 3 for second. 2 gets by 4 for third. The twelfth caution comes out for debris from 29 Parker Kligerman. 5 Travis Kvapil gets back onto the lead lap. 13 catches leader 18.

The thirteenth caution comes out for spinning 97  Lofton. They restart with three laps to go. 13 and 18 battle for the lead and 13 takes the lead with the final lap to go.

Johnny Sauter is the “Busch Slayer”, winning the Kroger 250 and beating Kyle Busch, the Cup driver who usually takes the wins from Truck drivers. But today a Camping World Truck driver won the Camping World race. Hip, hip, hooray! That race was definitely worth watching.
