NASCAR Racing: Sam’s Town 300

by

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. Saturday afternoon at Las Vegas Motor Speedway held the NASCAR Nationwide Series race, the Sam’s Town 300. Sprint Cup drivers 60 Carl Edwards and 18 Kyle Busch start on the front row. 18 and 33 Kevin Harvick split 60 at the start and 33 leads that first lap. 18 and 6 Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. battle for second and make contact.

The first caution comes out when 39 Josh Wise slides through the infield and flies over the asphalt, back onto the grass. 18 takes the lead at the restart. 11 Brian Scott gets a little too high into the wall. He comes to pit road. The second caution is for fuel on the track. 2 Elliott Sadler gets back on the lead lap. 18 takes fuel only and quickly looses the lead to 20 Denny Hamlin. 60 takes the lead.

The third caution comes out when 81Donnie Neuenberger looses it. 18 leading at the restart takes off. The fourth caution is for 81 getting loose again. 20 leads and 18 has a long pit stop, coming out ninth from the pits. The fifth caution comes out when 18 dives below 22 Brad Keselowski and ends up out of control on the apron. He does not gain control and hits the inside wall. He’s out of the race. 15 Timmy Hill and 79 Jennifer Jo Cobb get collected.

The sixth caution comes out when 99 Ryan Truex gets loose in front of 66 Steve Wallace who spins. 7 Danica Patrick gets her lap back. 60 leads at the restart. 33 Kevin Harvick gets into 11 who slowed for the car in front of him at the restart. 7 and 16 Trevor Bayne battle side by side and 7 finally gets by. There is some Green Flag Pitting as some cannot make it to the end of the race. On the final lap, while 22 was leading, he gets into the wall with a flat tire. 32 Mark Martin takes the lead and wins the Sam’s town 300. This was his 49th win in this Series, but the first time he has raced in this Series in quite some time. Danica Patrick finished fourth, the best ever finish for a woman.
