Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Wins the Daytona 500 Pole

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. got the pole for the Budweiser Shootout by picking the correct bottle of Bud. He was later taken out of the race. Qualifying for the Daytona 500 was held on Sunday afternoon and Junior was the fastest driver with a speed of 186.09 mph and 48.364 seconds around this 2.5 mile track. Beside him is team mate, Jeff Gordon who had a speed of 185.97. The two drivers are the only ones whose positions are locked in.

The rest of the positions will be determined by racing in the Gatorade Duels, which will be raced on Thursday afternoon. Qualifying was to determine how they will line of for their race. Junior will lead the odd positions in the first race and Gordon will lead the even positions in the second race. The starting line up for the Daytona 500 will be how they finish in the Duel races. The top 35 in owner points from 2010 are locked in and the four fastest in each race also will race.

Denny Hamlin changed the engine in his #11 Toyota and will start his Duel race from the rear. He was the last car in the top 35 to get on the track and the car made a sharp left onto the infield! The steering wheel unlocked and the car turned left. He righted it and made his run. Hopefully he will have it figured out by Thursday. 48 drivers will race in the Duels, 24 in each race. See you then.

Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR.
