NASCAR Racing: 2011

by

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. NASCAR racing will be here quickly. The Super Bowl of racing is almost here, the Daytona 500! They will be racing on the nice new pavement that was repaved after the race in July, 2010. No more pot holes, race fans! Just nice smooth racing on this 2.5 mile track.

Festivities begin with the non-points race, the Budweiser Shootout. To qualify for this race, the chasers of 2010 are all in. And any driver who has won at Daytona, along with any past champion. That is, if they can find a ride. The Shootout will be seen this Sat. 2/12/2011 on FOX at 8 PM, Eastern.

On Sunday, 2/13 the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will qualify for the Daytona 500, with the top 35 in owner points from 2010 locked into the race. As you know, only the first two positions will be locked in after qualifying. The drivers must race their way into the race with the Gatorade Duels. The pole sitter will lead the odd positions in one race and the outside pole sitter will lead the even positions in the other race. How they finish their race determines how they will line up for the Daytona 500. The Duels will be on SPEED on Thursday, 2/17 starting at 2:00 Eastern.

On Friday, 2/18 the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will race the Nextra Energy Resources 250 at 7:30 on SPEED. Saturday, 2/19 the NASCAR Nationwide Series will race the Drive4COPD 300 at 1:15 Eastern and will be seen on ESPN2.

Then on Sunday 2/20 the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will race the Daytona 500 starting at 1 PM Eastern on FOX.

I know that’s a lot of channels to watch, but there will be a lot of great racing. And I am one that is looking forward to the new NASCAR Season. There will be a new points system in place for all the NASCAR newbies out there. The chase is still on, despite what the long time fans want. I just hope the media doesn’t have the 10 chosen (and two wild cards, based on wins) already in place after Daytona.

Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR.
