Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. This weekend NASCAR’s top three Series’ are racing at the Texas Motor Speedway in Ft. Worth , TX. I have to say, first off, that I can only report what is presented to me. And coverage this weekend has been very poor. So that some of what I reported yesterday was incorrect,as the information was not reported to me.
On Thursday the NASCAR Camping World Truck series qualified for the Winstar Casino 350. However this qualifying was not televised, so I had no idea. 88 Matt Crafton captured the pole position with Elliott Sadler beside him in the KHI 2 truck. Elliott will be driving for Kevin Harvick in 2011 in his Trucks and in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in Kevin’s equipment. (But that’s other NASCAR News. Elliott will not have a ride with RPM in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2011.)
On Friday night the trucks raced their Winstar Casino 350. There were two women in that race. 20 Johanna Long qualified in the top ten. However she was in an accident and finished 36th. 10 Jennifer Jo Cobb didn’t have much better luck. She started 24th and finished 31st. The Trucks are impounded after qualifying which means they cannot work on them before the race starts. The trucks are covered and sit in the garage area until the race. Somehow, the 88 truck got damage on the rear spoiler (someone sat on it?) The Truck had to be repaired before Matt could race it, and he had to start the race from the rear.
It was fun watching 88 race up the field to finish third. 30 points leader Todd Bodine has a very good track record at 1.5 mile tracks and at Texas in particular. He has won at Texas six times. However it was not so in this race. He did however manage a fourth place finish. Cup regular, 18 kyle Busch, won the race and the media touted his many wins in the top three Series’. (It’s amazing what he can do in shorter races against drivers who mostly cannot compete with Cup drivers.) 13 Johnny Sauter overcame tire issues to finish second. 2 Elliott Sadler completed the top five.
Qualifying for the NASCAR Nationwide series took place Friday evening before the Truck race. However, SPEED didn’t cover it all so they could show Trackside. 31 James Buescher knocked 33 Kevin Harvick off the pole position. They will race Saturday afternoon.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series had their Coors Light Pole Qualifying Friday late afternoon. 19 Elliott Sadler captured the pole with a speed of 195.397 mph and 27.636 seconds. This was his first pole in four years. 49 cars were entered and six had to go home. They were: 36 J. J. Yeley, 81 Scott Riggs, 46 Michael McDowell, 64 Jeff Green, 23 Josh Wise and 92 Brian Keselowski. The AAA Texas 500 will take place on Sunday.
