NASCAR Racing:Talladega

by

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. This week the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns to Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama for the AMP Energy 500. This 2.66 mile trioval is the longest track on the circuit. Last week was at Martinsville, the shortest track on the circuit.

This Speedway has some of the most wonderful side by side racing. They usually race three wide, ten rows deep. However, this track is  the home of some of the most spectacular crashes. The fact that they race so close together makes for both. This is one of my favorite races to watch. I’m not one for watching crashes, but if no one makes any mistakes to take out half the field, the racing has me on the edge of my seat.

When I think of NASCAR racing, this track comes to mind. They are so close, going so fast. It is exciting and scary to watch, all at the same time. 29 Kevin Harvick won the last race at Talladega in April. Currently he is third in points behind Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin. Kevin won the race by racing behind 1 Jamie McMurray until the last second, when he pulled to the side of Jamie and beat him to the line. It was perfect.

Other races here ended …well, spectacularly. When the driver blocks instead of races to the Finish, it always ends with a crash. Hopefully this weekend, whoever ends up out front on the last lap will not try to block, but will race to the Finish Line. Talk to you more later.

Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR.
