NASCAR Racing: Charlotte Motor Speedway

by

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. The NASCAR Sprint Cup series returns to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the 31st race of the year and the fifth race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. This time it will be under the lights for the Bank of America 500, the only night race in the chase.

Coors Light Pole Qualifying took place on Thursday, as this race will be raced on Saturday night. There were 49 cars entered, so six had to go home. 19 Elliott Saddler came out first and posted a time of 28.36 seconds and 190.382. 98 Paul Menard came out 8th and took over the position. 24 Jeff Gordon came out 23rd and kept the pole position with a speed of 191.544 mph and 28.192 seconds.

37 is Dave Blaney this week. 71 is Andy Lally. 7 Robby Gordon is back in his own car. (More than likely, to keep his car in the top 35 in owner points.) 21 Bill Elliott got in on speed as did 10 Bobby Labonte in his brother’s car. 26 is Patrick Carpentier. 64 is Jeff Green. 09 is Landon Cassill. 36 is J. J. Yeley. 99 Carl Edwards will start on the front row in second. 23 Johnny Sauter, 87 Joe Nemechek, 55 Mike Bliss, 07 Kevin Conway (in a Robby Gordon car), 66 Jason Leffler and 13 Casey Mears failed to qualify.

In other NASCAR news, five more were inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame this week. Those five are: David Pearson, (who most thought should have  been in the first class), Bobby Allison, pioneer, Lee Petty, Ned Jarrett and owner Bud Moore. I thought it was a good class of inductees. They go back to the beginning of the Sport. They will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in May 2011.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series is also in Charlotte this weekend. They will qualify on Friday after final practice. NSCS will have practice on Friday also. The Nationwide race will be Friday night. Talk to you later.

Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR.
