NASCAR Racing: Kansas

by

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. The NASCAR Nationwide Series had it’s Kansas Lottery 300 race at the Kansas Speedway. Qualifying was in the morning. (Although ESPN2 chose to show Soccer instead.) Sprint Cup drivers and JGR team mates, 20 Joey Logano and 18 Kyle Busch started from the front row.

Trevor Bayne raced in his new 17 ride, while his 99 car was piloted by Ryan Truex.  20 led from the pole, 18 took the lead. fellow Cup driver 33 Kevin Harvick in his own car took the lead from 18. 18 catches 33 in traffic and takes the lead.

Those NASCAR sprint Cup Series drivers sure are great drivers in this second level of NASCAR. There was a round of Green Flag Pitting. The first caution was Cup driver, 60 Carl Edwards, spinning. The second caution was for debris from 60. The third caution was leader 18 spinning. Cup driver 98 Paul Menard was then the leader. 18 went to high to get around cars and gets into the wall. Cup driver, 00 Martin Truex, Jr. took the lead. 88 Aric Almirola takes the lead from 00 (Aric is a Nationwide driver. Yea!)  33 takes the lead from 88.

The fourth caution comes out when 21 Morgan Shepherd looses the engine. 87Joe Nemecheck gets the free pass back onto the lead lap. (Joe is the only driver that has won both the Busch race and the Cup race here at Kansas Speedway.) The fifth caution comes out when 38 Jason Leffler looses it and spins into the infield. Rookie 42 Parker kligerman gets the free pass. 33 is leading.

The sixth caution comes out for spinning 15 Michael Annett. Brian Scott in his new 09 car also spins. 33 and 22 Brad Keselowski restart out front. 22 takes the lead. There is more Green flag Pitting and 6 Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. leads. 01 Mike Wallace leads. The seventh caution comes out when 17 spins. The Green Flag comes out with six to go.

The eighth caution comes out when 88 spins beside 12 Justin Allgaier. They go Green with two laps to go. 22 pushes 20 into the lead past 18. And 20 Joey Logano wins after starting from the pole. 18 Kyle Busch lead the most laps. 22 got by 18 for second, putting 18 back to third. There was no caution when 42 got into the wall and the leaders were allowed to race to the line.

Now I love watching racing, but all the Sprint Cup drivers racing in Nationwide is really getting on my nerves. I have favorites in all the different Series. This race was all about Cup drivers. They will have their time to shine on Sunday. Great racing? Not really. Not much is said about the Nationwide drivers. It’s all about Cup drivers. They are , after all, Cup drivers. And are supposed to be better than Nationwide drivers. I’d like, for a change, to watch a Nationwide race with Nationwide drivers in the race. In my opinion, there should be limits on Cup driver participation in Nationwide. No one is talking about Nationwide drivers. And this  is supposed to be their race.

Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR.
