NASCAR Racing: Kansas

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. Week 29 in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season brings us to Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, KS.  for the Price Chopper 400. This race is the third race in the chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Kansas Speedway is one of only two tracks that the NASCAR drivers haven’t already raced on this year. So, they didn’t get a “practice session” in on this track. Next year there will be two races at this track. Apparently because the track will then have a Casino. Not sure how this alludes to racing, but NASCAR seams to think it does.

Kansas Speedway is a 1.5 mile tri-oval track. Some call it a “cookie cutter” track. But of course all the tracks are different. A lot of the tracks are 1.5 miles in length.

Matt Kenseth holds the qualifying record of 180.856 mph and 29.858 seconds, set 10/8/05. Mark Martin holds the race record of 137.774 mph set 10/9/05. (Qualifying was on Saturday, the race on Sunday, same year.)  Jeff Gordon won the first two races here. Tony Stewart had a previous win before winning last year. Other winners at this track are: Ryan Newman, Joe Nemechek, Mark Martin, Greg Biffle and Jimmie Johnson.

I will have more to report when the festivities start at Kansas Speedway. Stay tuned.

Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR.
