Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. Lots of racing going on this weekend. The K&N Pro series raced at Dover International Speedway. However, it was not televised as Barrett Jackson auto auctions were going on in Las Vegas. Somehow, that was more important on SPEED than showing racing. Danica Patrick raced to a sixth place finish. She was also in the NASCAR Nationwide series race.
The NASCAR Nationwide series was also in Dover. Qualifying was in the morning on Saturday and the race was in the afternoon. The Dover 200 had Cup drivers and team mates 20 Joey Logano and 18 Kyle Busch on the front row. Joey led the first few laps and Kyle led the rest. With other Cup drivers right there racing with those two. Some racing was going on between regular Nationwide drivers, but that paled to what the Big Boys did.
Kyle broke Sam Ard’s record of ten wins in a single season. While that is quite an accomplishment, it pales to what Sam actually did. Sam was a regular Busch driver, racing with some Cup drivers. And he was able to beat the Big Boys to do it. Kyle races in most of the Nationwide races. So this was just a Cup caliber driver in great equipment beating a handful of Cup drivers eleven times. The Series is not the same since the Cup drivers took over the championship points. And I can only hope something is done about this next year. I really don’t care to watch Cup drivers taking over the Nationwide Series.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series was in Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Smith’s Food and Drug Stores 350K. And since the Cup drivers were in Dover, this race was all Truck drivers. And mighty exciting, if you ask me. 3 Austin Dillon started on the Pole for the fifth time this season. He is the first Rookie contender to do so. He went on to lead the most laps and win the race. Now, that’s quite and accomplishment. Good thing there were no Cup drivers to spoil all the great racing. Last week Kyle moved Rookie 31 James Buescher out of the way to grab his first win away. The top ten finishers were: 3 Dillon, 13 Johnny Sauter, 31 Buescher, 30 points leader Todd Bodine, 88 Matt Crafton, 51 Aric Almirola, 18 Brian Ickler, 7 Rookie Justin Lofton, 4 Ricky Carmichael and 2 Ken Schrader. Great race.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is at Dover International Speedway for the AAA 400. 48 Jimmie Johnson will start from the pole with 43 A. J. Allmendinger beside him. This is the 28th race of the Season and the second race in the chase. In other news, Clint Bowyer’ 33 winning car at Louden was taken to the R&D Center and found illegal after passing pre- and post-race inspections. 11 Denny Hamlin as much told the media that RCR were cheaters. Team mate 29 Kevin Harvick ran into the 11 in practice, sticking up for his team mate and owner. We’ll see what happens next.
