NASCAR Racing: Coors Light Pole Qualifying

by

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is in Dover, DE. at the Dover International Speedway for the 28th race of the season. This is the second race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Coors Light Pole Qualifying took place on Friday afternoon for the AAA 400. First on the track was 11 Denny Hamlin. Denny is the chase points leader heading into this second race. Dover is traditionally not his best track. We’ll see how he does on Sunday. Will they race different because this is a chase race? I doubt it. The concrete “Monster Mile” is a tough track any time they come here. The fact that this is a chase race shouldn’t make the drivers race the track any different than when they were last here in May.

56 Martin Truex, Jr. came out ninth and knocked Denny off the pole. 71 is Landon Cassill. 7 is Kevin Conway in the Robby Gordon entry. 26th out was 43 A. J. Allmendinger who knocked Truex, Jr. off the pole. 34 is Travis Kvapil. 37 is Tony Raines. 48 Jimmie Johnson came out with only one driver left to qualify in the top thirty-five in owner points. And came away with the pole with a speed of 155.736 and 23.116 seconds. This was his 25th career pole.

38 is David Gilliland. 36 is Dave Blaney. 09 Bobby Labonte didn’t have to use his Champion provisional to get into the race. 46 is Michael McDowell. 81 is J. J. Yeley. 13 is Casey Mears for the rest of the season. 55 is Mike Bliss. 26 Jeff Green, 66 Ted Musgrave and 64 Josh Wise failed to qualify. 5 Mark Martin failed post qualifying inspection for a right rear shock and will have to start 42nd instead of third.

Danica Patrick is entered in two races at Dover. The K&N Pro Series East and the NASCAR Nationwide series. She go to practice for a long time on Thursday. The Nationwide series will qualify Saturday morning and race Saturday afternoon.

All for now. Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR.
