Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. This week the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series travels to Richmond International Raceway for the final race before the Chase for the Sprint Cup begins. There was a two hour practice and a one hour Final Practice for the Air Guard 400 on Friday. Coors Light Pole Qualifying will be later this evening.
The top ten in points are locked into the chase. The final two will be determined during the race on Saturday night. 33 Clint Bowyer was fastest in the long first practice. And 99Carl Edwards was fastest in Final practice, where they made mock qualifying runs.
48 cars are entered for the Air Guard 400. This means thirteen drivers are vying for the last eight spots. Five teams will go home. 83 will be Mattias Ekstrom. Kevin Conway will be in Robby Gordon’s #7 car. 64 is NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points leader, Todd Bodine. 36 is Dave Blaney. 13 is Casey Mears. 66 is Scott Riggs. 46 is Michael McDowell. 32 is NASCAR Nationwide Series regular, Jason Leffler. 92 is Brian Keselowski. 26 is Jeff Green. 55 is Mike Bliss. And Terry Labonte is the new driver of the new team, 10. The Labonte brothers are past champions, Bobby being the latest.
Also on Friday, the NASCAR Nationwide Series qualified for their Virginia 529 College Savings 250 race. 33 Kevin Harvick grabbed the pole with a speed of 123.990 mph and 21.776 seconds. Team mate Clint Bowyer in the #21 car will start beside Kevin. 07 Danny Efland is the lone driver who didn’t make the race. This race is the third of four times the new car will be raced before being full time next year.
Qualifying coming up. Later.
Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR.
