NASCAR Racing: On The Road (Course) Again

by

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. This week the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is back on the road again. Road course, that is. The second road course of the season is Watkins Glen International located in Watkins Glen, NY. for the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen. WGI is a 2.45 mile road course with eleven turns.

Jeff Gordon holds the qualifying record with a speed of 124.580 mph and 70.798 seconds set 8/8/03. Mark Martin holds the race record of 103.300 mph set 8/13/95! Last year, Tony Stewart won his fifth race at this track. Jeff Gordon has four wins here. Robby Gordon, Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch are also past winners.

Improvements were made to the track since last year. If you’ll recall, last year Sam Hornish, Jr. hit a tire barrier and bounced back onto the track into the path of several other cars. NASCAR took a look at the track and safer barriers were installed.

I will bring you more as they get to the track.

Brought to you by Sheila Hawley. I love NASCAR
