Hornaday wins at ORP

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. Friday, while the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series were across the way at the O’Reilly Raceway Park (formerly Indy Raceway Park). There were three women in this race! Hooray! Johanna Long, in the 15 qualified 15th and finished 17th. Jennifer Jo Cobb, in the 10 qualified 32nd and finish26th. And Michelle Theriault, in the 48 qualified 30th and finished 32nd. Although the media did not make as big a deal of them as they did of Danica Patrick.

17 Timothy Peters started from the pole, with 18 Kyle Busch, the only Cup driver in the field, started second. In the 2 KHI truck was Nationwide driver, Shelby Howard. He was one of the cars collected in the Brad vs Carl incident. 17 chose the outside for the start and led from the pole.

The first caution came out when 87 Chris Jones got into the wall. 4 Ricky Carmichael had water spewing and had to make multiple pit stops to remove tape and cool the engine down. 18 battles 17 for the lead, but 18 can’t get by. 7 Justin Lofton has engine trouble and heads for the pits. 48 Theriault is five laps down and speeds out of the pits, making her six laps down!

33 Ron Hornaday who started fifth, takes the lead. 18 gets by 17 for second. 88 Matt Crafton and 13 Johnny Sauter get by 17. 88 and 13 get by 18. The second caution is for debris. 12 Mario Gosselin gets the free pass onto the lead lap. The third caution has 51 Aric Almirola, 12 and 60 Narain Karthikeyan all into the wall. And Almirola is none too pleased. (They couldn’t find footage of what actually happened). 4 Carmichael got the free pass.

The fourth caution comes out during the commercial. 63 Nick Hoffman slides into 07 Donnie Lia and Lia hits the wall. Since Lia did not cause the caution, he gets the free pass. 17 and 23 Jason White stay out, since they pitted the last caution. 33 and 18 battle for second. 33 gets by 18 and 17 to retake the lead. 18 gets by 17 for second. 88 gets by 17 for third. 13 and 81 David Starr get together and 81 hits the wall. 3 Austin Dillon gets by 17 for fourth. 13 gets into points leader, 30 Todd Bodine, to get by.

33 slaps the wall with six laps to go. But no one can catch him, and Hornaday wins the AAA Insurance 200. This was his fourth win at this track.

Coors Light Qualifying took place for the Brickyard 400 on Saturday morning. 42 Juan Pablo Montoya starts from the pole with a speed of 182.279. Three time Brickyard winner, 48 Jimmie Johnson starts on the front row with him. 38 David Gilliland, 36 Casey Mears, 26 David Stremme and 46 J. J. Yeley all failed to qualify. 09 for this race is Bobby Labonte. 64 is Todd Bodine. 32 is Jacques Villeneuve. 83 is Nationwide driver, Reed Sorenson.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series is also at ORP and will qualify and race on Saturday.
