NASCAR Racing At Gateway International Raceway

by

Welcome NASCAR race fans to me NASCAR blog. This week the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has the weekend off. But don’t fret, NASCAR fans, because the NASCAR Nationwide series and the NASCAR Camping World Series are both at Gateway International Speedway in St. Louis near the arch. Actually, the address is Madison, IL. This track is a 1.25 mile track.

The Trucks qualified on Friday with Kevin Harvick, a  Sprint Cup driver in his own #2 truck , on the pole with a speed of 133.325 and 33.732 seconds. James Buescher in the 31 truck starts on the front row with Kevin. Brad Keselowski, points leader in the Nationwide series, starts third with the same speed as James. The 31 Truck is higher in points and beats out the 29 of Brad.

87 Chris Jones beat 73 Chris Fontainne by thousandths of a second to get into the race. Chris has to go home. Also not qualifying were 21 Butch Miller, 48 Richard Harriman and 85 Brent Raymer. This is Harvick’s first pole in the Camping World Series. 3 Austin Dillon won the past three poles in the Series. And he won the last race in Iowa.

Three points leaders from the three Series are in this race. 30 Todd Bodine leads the Camping World Truck Series. Keselowski leads in the Nationwide Series. And Harvick leads the points in the Sprint Cup Series. Can Buescher, starting second, win his first race here?

There was a problem with the lights. And the power company was out there trying to fix it before the race could start. However, they didn’t get the lights on tonight. So, the race will be run on Saturday at 1:30. That means the fans who waited out the power failure will get to see a double header on Saturday.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series will qualify and race on Saturday. They are scheduled to start in the evening. Hopefully the lights will be fixed by then.
