Austin Dillon wins at Iowa

by

Welcome NASCAR race fans to my NASCAR blog. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series was at Iowa Speedway in Newton, IA.  for the Lucas Oil 200. Iowa Speedway is a great new short track at 7/8 miles long. And lots of room to race.

Austin Dillon started from the pole position and led all but a handful of laps all day. This was his first NASCAR win. And he won in dominating fashion.

There were no big NASCAR names for this race. The Sprint Cup drivers were busy in Chicagoland Speedway this weekend. So the race was all Truck drivers. Just the way I like it.

Some of the big names in Trucks didn’t fair as well as Dillon. Todd Bodine caused a big mess when he tried to go between Donnie Lia and Brian Ickler. He then came into the pits too fast past the safety trucks. When he was finished pitting, still under caution, he bumped Ickler. That got him a Black Flag. Not a very good day for him, the points leader.

Both Billy Ballew Trucks had the right front tire blow. And the engine of the Timothy Peters truck went sour. Johnny Sauter finished second, while Team mate Matt Crafton finished third. Ken Schrader drove the KHI #2 truck to a fourth place finish. And James Buescher rounded out the top five.

It was a very exciting race at a wonderful track. I have to wonder why Cup doesn’t race there. A nice short track with lots of room to race.
